Description
Scope of Objectives Provide technical assistance for the development of updated descriptive statistics for aquatic habitat parameters. Introduction: Watershed Analyses on the Tongass National Forest make frequent use of natural ranges of variation for select stream attributes published in Bryant 2004. An expansion of the original dataset allows us the opportunity to repeat these analyses and provide updated statistics. Additionally a recent publication by Woodsmith (2005) offers additional metrics that can be efficiently analyzed during this effort. This scope of work covers the statistical analysis of a set of aquatic data. The contractor should be proficient with statistical software programs, statistical methodologies, analysis of ecological data and time-series analysis. The contractor will do the following: 1) Provide updated statistical tables for eight aquatic habitat measures published in Bryant 2004. Provide the same type of statistical tables for three additional habitat measures listed Woodsmith?s 2005 publication. 2) Provide statistics and graphs describing variation of the above measures through time (wherever the data allows). 3) Explore different types of stream segments stratifications. Use those stratifications that are most effective for decoupling human-caused and natural changes to the above measures. Deliverables are: 1) An updated statistical table for the eight originally published aquatic habitat parameters plus the three selected variables from Woodsmith (2005). 2) A written description of the methodologies involved in the calculations. 3) Written recommendations about the future of this dataset from a statistical perspective. Milestones: Begin work March 27, 2007; review progress after 2 weeks on April 8, 2007 Project completed by May 1, 2007. Required Reading: Bryant, M. D., Caouette, J. P., Wright, B. E., 2004. Evaluating Stream Habitat Survey Data and Statistical Power Using an Example from Southeast Alaska. North American Journal of Fisheries Management 24, 1353-1362. Woodsmith, R. D., Noel, J. R, Dilger, M. L., 2005. An approach to effectiveness monitoring of floodplain channel aquatic habitat: channel condition assessment. Landscape and Urban Planning. 72, 177-204.
