- Western Area Power Administration intends to acquire, on a brand name sole source basis, line hardware under the authority FAR 6.302-1. Western believes Hughes items requested are the specific type of equipment that is compatible with and is necessary for maintenance and upgrade of our existing transmission lines. The quality of this hardware far exceeds expectations of other brand names that we have tried in past years. It is the strong desire to maintain standard tools and spare parts that are consistent with the line hardware that we currently have in stock. Other brands would increase our inventories and require different types of tools and equipment required for installation. Although the brand name is being specified, there is adequate price competition available from distributors of these items.
