Description of revision: Revised; 3/8/07: The purpose of this revision is to set a response limit of ten (10) pages. Description: The John A. Volpe National Transportation Systems Center (Volpe Center) is an Operating Administration within the Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA) of the United States Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT). The Volpe Center supports the U.S. Army?s Program Executive Office, Combat Support and Combat Service Support, Force Projection - Watercraft Program with engineering, logistics and technical oversight of construction and testing during the fielding and final acceptance of the Modular Causeway System. The Modular Causeway System (MCS) is used for carrying wheeled and tracked vehicles and containers from vessels anchored offshore to the beach. The Volpe Center has a requirement from the United States Army to refurbish and modify a ship set of prototype modular causeway ferry ?gunnels.? This is not a request for proposal (RFP) but a request for information (RFI) to be used for planning purposes only. It is requested that you provide the necessary technical data/supporting data that will allow the Government to assess whether your Modular Causeway System (MCS) knowledge can satisfy the Government?s needs. Interested parties are requested to provide company literature/correspondence that states the offeror?s capabilities to comply with the one or all of the below listings: (A) Do you currently produce and/or sell ships, floating docks, barges? (B) List some of the major customers for your products, please include company name, POC and phone no. (C) Experience fabricating, assembling, first article testing, provisioning and preserving Modular Causeway Systems? (D) What type of warranty is the commercial standard for this industry? Please attach a sample warranty from your company. (E) Your experience with providing Army Logistics Data Products? Please describe customers and products. (F) If awarded a contract for MCS, would you perform the logistics data products effort in-house, or would it be a subcontract? THIS NOTICE IS NOT A REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL. This notice is for informational and planning purposes only, and is a market research tool to determine the availability and adequacy of potential business sources prior to determining the method of acquisition and possible issuance of a Request for Proposal including the use of any non-profit organization or small business programs. The Government is not obligated to and will not pay for any information received from potential sources as a result of response to this Special Notice. This notice does not constitute a solicitation for bids and proposals, and is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government. The information provided herein is subject to change and in no way binds the Government to solicit for or award a competitive contract. Unless otherwise stated herein, no solicitation regarding this announcement is available. Request for the same will be disregarded. If a solicitation is released, it will be synopsized in the FEDBIZOPPS. It is the potential offerors responsibility to monitor this site for release of any solicitation or synopsis. Please be aware that all information submitted in response to this request, whether written, oral, electronic, graphic, or any other medium, is considered public information under the Freedom of Information Act, 5 U.S.C. 552.
