- The Meteorological Satellite (METSAT) Data Exploitation Capability (MDEC) project is comprised of design, development, test, and implementation in support of the Air Force Weather Agency (AFWA). A Service Oriented Architecture is recommended for Air Force Weather Strategic Centers to allow exploitation of increased data from NPOESS-era satellites. This architecture will be built in layers to allow the science models and functional components to be added, removed, or upgraded independently as needed to exploit the NPOESS-era data. As a result, each capability (service) can be upgraded or replaced with minimal impact to the other capabilities. Additionally, the MDEC contractor has integration challenges due to interdependencies with the Weather Data Analysis (WDA) program as well as other concurrent activities at the Air Force Weather Strategic Centers.
