- Description
- The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is pleased to announce a series of tests for evaluating the state of the art in automated latent fingerprint matching algorithms. The intent of the testing is to quantify the core algorithmic capability of contemporary matchers. The long-term objectives are to provide automated assistance to latent examiners, and performance improvements in watchlist searches. In conducting these tests NIST will rely on automated latent feature extraction methods that do not use human markup of the latent images. The testing will be conducted using software-only implementations. The initial test is scheduled for the April 2007 timeframe. ***** Vendors of AFIS systems with a latent fingerprint search capability are encouraged to participate. Academic institutions with a mature executable latent matcher are also welcome to participate directly in the test. Participation is still open and the deadline is posted on the website http://fingerprint.nist.gov/elft07/ . Comments are welcomed from all sectors of the latent community. This is strictly a special notice that is being published to reach a wider audience. It is not a federal procurement action, no RFQ or RFP is available. ***** To participate, detailed information may be obtained from the following websites: http://fingerprint.nist.gov/latent/ or more directly from http://fingerprint.nist.gov/elft07/ . Please visit theses websites, as there have been significant updates since the initial posting. NIST welcomes all comments. Comments should be addressed to latent@nist.gov (with cc: to vdvorny@nist.gov). This is the second announcement. A previous FedBizOpps announcement was posted 27 November 2006.
