Description
Reclamation is pursuing various remediation options to correct identified seismic deficiencies with Mormon Island Auxiliary Dike (MIAD), Folsom Dam, in Sacramento, California. One option being considered is in situ treatment of deep foundation soils along the downstream portion of the embankment using jet grouting. These foundation soils consist primarily of dredger tailings. A jet grouting test section will be required in order to develop final design jet grouting parameters and to determine if jet grouting is technically and economically feasible at this site. The contractor will be required to have specific experience and knowledge of jet grouting principles (including specific experience with triple and double-fluid jet grouting systems), previous jet grouting projects, technical requirements and limitations of jet grouting, geotechnical engineering principles, and seismic analysis techniques. The contractor is required to complete a review of Reclamation's proposed jet grouting test section design and specifications and provide guidance on the design prior to the contract award. The contractor will also be required to be on site during the test section construction to assist Reclamation staff and gather data for evaluation of the test section results. The contractor will be required to write a report of the results of the test section. The contractor shall be an acknowledged expert in the field of jet grouting and jet grouting technology. The contractor should have specific and significant broad experience with jet grouting technology, jet grouting field applications, and jet grouting theory. In particular the contractor shall have specific knowledge of the broad types of foundation conditions that are applicable to jet grouting including limitations to the technology such as depth, material types, groundwater levels, column diameter, and specific experience with jet grouting technologies such as single, double, and triple phase systems and both conventional and large-diameter columns. The contractor shall have field experience with at least 10 major jet grouting contracts that have been completed in the last 5 years and shall have experience serving as a jet grouting consultant. The contractor shall also have knowledge of geotechnical engineering principals and geology. The contractor will perform the majority of the work in contractor facilities with the exception of the on site work during the test section construction at Mormon Island Auxiliary Dike located in Folsom, California, which is anticipated to last approximately 3 weeks. The period of performance for this work is from date of award through approximately April 6, 2007.
