Description
The National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) has a requirement to purchase Het Floxed X Het CRE from The Jackson Laboratory, Animal Resources, 600 Main Street, Bar Harbor, ME 04609. To the best of the Governments knowledge the proposed contractor is the only known source that can provide a total of ~216 mice, over a 12-15 month period. The Jackson Laboratory, a non-profit organization, is widely recognized as the premier mouse-management facility in the United States. The Jackson Laboratory has been conducting mouse-based biomedical research for over seventy years and, as a result, has accumulated a tremendous wealth of information related to husbandry, genetics and biology associated with selecting and using laboratory mice in research. They are the single largest supplier of experimental mice in the United States, and also provide custom mouse breeding and related support services that are used in the development of novel mouse models. Importantly, The Jackson Laboratory is AAALAC accredited and is the recommended vendor of the NlAAA Animal Care & Use Committee (ACUC). This request is for colony management of N-methyl-D-asparate 28 receptor conditional null mutant. The Jackson Laboratory will rederive, breed, microchip-identify, genotype, and maintain mice from this line. Mice will be shipped to building lOA and 5626 Fisher's Place for research by Dr. Holmes. This research will entail behavioral and electrophysiological assessment of the mutant mice in order to better understand the neural and genetic basis of psychiatric disease states and drug abuse and thereby fulfill the mission of the NIAAA Interested vendors may identify in writing their interest with a capability statement to the Contracting Office prior to the closing date of this notice. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals, however, all responses received, before the closing date of this announcement, will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed acquisition is based upon responses to this notice and is solely within the discretion of the Government.
