- The University of California, Ernest Orlando Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) operated under Prime Contract DE-AC02-05CH11231 with the U.S. Department of Energy intends to solicit competitive proposals from pre-qualified sources for a Design-Build Subcontract to design and construct the Advanced Light Source (ALS) User Support Building (USB) at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory in Berkeley, California. Minimum requirements for interested Design-Build Subcontractors are: 1. Must have a California Contractors License Classification B, General Contractor. 2. Must have completed a minimum of 3 projects in recent years with a construction cost of more than $10 million. 3. Must have maintained a Workers Compensation Experience Modification Rate of 1.0 or less for the last 3 years. The project consists of a 3 story structure of approximately 30,000 gsf. The first floor will consist of modern chemical and biological prep laboratories, staging high bay, a potential future beam line extension from the ALS, component assembly and precision assembly shop spaces with 16? floor-to-floor height. The second and third floors will consist chiefly of office space. There will be a small entrance lobby and a seminar room. The Design-Build Subcontractor will start firm the existing schematic design and will conduct value engineering, validate the LEED plan, incorporate alternates, and provide a validated schematic design. Subcontractor will then complete all required design submittals necessary for construction. After design acceptance the University may exercise a unilateral option for construction.
