Description
Request for Market Survey on M82 Simulant Smoke Grenades Description The US Army Armament Research Development and Engineering Center, Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey is seeking sources of supply for the M82 Simulant Smoke grenade. In addition to the ability to manufacture the Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) filled 66mm launched grenade, sources should have systems engineering capability to support design improvements, performance enhancements, process re- engineering, cost reductions, simulation studies, adaptability to changing quantity needs and environmental qualification testing. Response should address the foregoing. Only those companies who have the capability to manufacture including systems engineering support for the complete item should respond to this announcement. The current design configuration of the grenade consists of a plastic cylindrical main body that contains a smoke composition, RDX energetic, Composition A5 explosives, Composition CH-6, Lead Azide, black powder into an integrated burster-booster energetic train with a mechanical safe and arm (S&A) mechanism. The S&A mechanism consists of an out-of-line spring loaded slider/bore rider that acts as a bridge to the explosive train with a spring loaded setback lock. A propellant assembly is retained in the body forming the complete grenade. The propellant assembly consists of a pyrotechnic delay detonator, a launch propellant, an electric match, and a propellant retainer with electrical contacts. No other specifications or information other than what is shown above is available at this time. Interested sources should submit terms and conditions, delivery schedule for hardware delivery (approximately 500 each), warranty information and cost estimate for budgetary purposes only to the POC listed below and include company name, address, telephone and fax numbers, and point of contact. Respondent should include past experience with design, manufacture and testing of like metal components, similar chemical materials and acquisition and handling of energetic materials. US Army is requesting this information for MARKET RESEARCH only. Participation in this effort is strictly voluntary with no cost or obligation to be incurred by the US Army. The information provided will only be utilized by the US Army in developing its acquisition approach for possible future requirements.
