Description

The National Park Service (NPS) intends to award up to two concession contracts for guided interpretive hiking services for the public within the Kantishna area and limited opportunities in the Wonder Lake area of Denali National Park and Preserve. The proposed contracts will have a term of January 1, 2007 through December 31, 2016. The prospectus will explain the business opportunity, the terms and conditions under which the NPS will award the concession contracts, the proposal instructions and proposal package (including the selection factors). The solicitation, selection and award of the concession contract will be conducted pursuant to 36 CFR Part 51. In addition, the NPS has determined that Denali National Park Wilderness Centers, Ltd. is a historical operator eligible to be awarded a concession contract. This contract will be awarded pursuant to section 1307 of the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act, 16 USC 3197 and 36 CFR 13.80-13.82. Generally historical operators have a right to continue to provide the same scope and level of service that they were legally engaged in providing prior to January 1, 1979 pursuant to 36 CFR 13.82(a). Therefore, the NPS intends to award a concession contract to Denali National Park Wilderness Centers, Ltd. for their historic use of 14 guided interpretive hikes a week and 3 gold panning outings a week in the Kantishna area and limited opportunities in the Wonder Lake area of Denali National Park and Preserve. Denali National Park Wilderness Centers, Ltd. also has historical operator rights to conduct additional activities within the Old Park area of Denali National Park and Preserve. Their concession contract authorizing historical rights will include authorization to conduct interpretive trips not to exceed two vehicles each making one trip per day as far as Eielson Visitor Center, 13 trips per summer season by one vehicle going as far east as Toklat, and five non-motorized watercraft on Wonder Lake. These additional activities in the Old Park are not authorized in the contracts to be awarded under this prospectus. The park intends to release the prospectus on September 13, 2006.
