Description
The U.S. Geological Survey, Marine Facility, Redwood City, CA., is seerking the charter services of a research vessel to do light seismic and high resolution Chirp surveys between Point Reyes and the Golden Gate in California. The desire is to mobilize the 25th of September, work for 7 days and demobilize the 3rd of October 2006. Mobilization and demobilizations days at sea 12 hour days. It would be desirable but not mandatory to work out of Bolinas Bay. VESSEL OPERATIONAL SPECIFICATIONS TO BE PROVIDED FOR USGS 1. Name and detailed description of the vessel designated to be used under this contract. 2. Name, proof of U.S. Coast Guard license, and a description of experience of the Captain. 3. Contract or Vessel shall have marine and general public liability insurance with limits of liability for: i) bodily injury of not less than $100,000 for each person and $500,000 for each occurrence, and ii) property damage of not less than $100,000 for each incident and $500,000 in the aggregate. Proof of insurance shall be provided after contract award. VESSEL REQUIREMENTS: 1. Vessel shall be fully licensed by the U.S. Coast Guard as required by law and shall have passed all appropriate U.S. Coast Guard requirements for safety and seaworthiness. 2. The vessel shall be equipped with radar, depth sounder, EPIRB, safety equipment, medical kit, current nautical charts and it is desirable that it have GPS navigation. 3. The ship must be able to accommodate 5 or 6 USGS personnel for daytime work only. 4. The ship must be able to provide 220vac, 20 amp, single phase power. 5. The ship must be able to maintain a speed of 3 to 5 knots for long periods of time for data collection. 6. The ship must have a separate space for the sparker power supply from the acquisition electronics, a minimum of 20 feet away with access to the 220vac power, the fantail for a cable to the sparket sled and a cable from the triggering device in the acquisition system to the power supply. The power supply dimensions are approximately 36" wide x 24" deep x 24" high. 7. The vessel must have a J-frame, U-frame or boom arrangement capable of lifting and towing a 500lb tow fish during Chirp surveys. With a winch that has at least 50 meters of wire capable of towing the tow fish. 8. The ship must have a dry lab area with 6 to 8 feet of counter space to accommodate at least 3 desk top computers and monitors, approximately 3kw of clean 110vac power and have access to the working deck to connect tow fish, transducers and antennas for navigation. It should also be able to accommodate 2 operators during science operations. A possible alternative is to have a dry space to place and tie down a portable structure 5ft X 61/2ft. 9. The contractor shall be responsible for providing fuel, lubricants, and other consumables for operating the charter vessel.
