Description
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) has a requirement to purchase a Nuclisens EasyMag Automatic Nucleic Acid Extractor. The purchase of this instrument from Biomerieux, Inc., 100 Rodolphe Street, Durham, NC 27704 is requested to complement the current research in the Unit of Intercellular Interactions, studying concomitant viral infection by detecting viral replication and gene expression by nucleic acid detection. The extraction of these nucleic acids is a tedious and lengthy process and traditional extraction methods do not allow the concomitant extraction of RNA and DNA, which forces investigators to perform a dedicated nucleic acid extraction for each nucleic acid. This equipment uses BOOM technology, which is the only extraction procedure that allows the simultaneous extraction of both RNA and DNA in a single procedure, reducing the time and cost associated with the extraction of both nucleic acid separately. The Nuclisens EasyMag is the only automated extractor that allows the simultaneous extraction of 24 samples in less than an hour. It is the only extractor that uses the same protocol irrespective of the starting volume and the nature of the sample and will expand throughput, as well as enable researchers to purify nucleic acids from hard to extract samples such as precious clinical specimens. To the best of the Governments knowledge the proposed contractor is the only known source that can provide the components. Interested vendors may identify in writing their interest with a capability statement to the Contracting Office prior to the closing date of this notice. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals, however; all responses received, before the closing date, of this announcement will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed acquisition is based upon responses to this notice and is solely within the discretion of the Government. It is anticipated that the Request for Quotation (RFQ) NIH-NIDDK-06-988 will be available fifteen (15) days after the publication date of this synopsis. Receipt of quotations will be due ten (10) days after the release of the RFQ. The anticipated award date is September 20, 2006. Request for copies of the RFQ must be in writing to the National Institutes of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, 6707 Democracy Blvd., Room 775, Bethesda, MD 20817 Attention: Patricia Haun. FAX quotations must contain offerors name, address, telephone number and fax number. FAX quotations will be accepted if dated and signed by an authorized company representative. FAX NUMBER 301-480-8502.
