The Florida Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network in cooperation with the Florida Procurement Technical Assistance Program (PTAP) and the Small Business Innovative Rearch (SBIR)/Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Program Offices from: DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES; NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH; DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE; DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY; DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY; NATIONAL AERONAUTICS AND SPACE ADMINISTRATION;and FEDERAL LABORATORY CONSORTIUM These events are being hosted and presented at the 2006 Florida SBIR/STTR Advanced Technology and Life Sciences Conference Series on the following dates and locations: March 27-28,2006; located at University of South Florida, Tampa. May 8-9,2006; located at Crowne Plaza Orlando Airport, Orlando. June 8-9,2006; located at Florida Atlantic University, Jupiter. These events are sponsored by The Florida Governor’s Office of Tourism Trade and Economic Development; Florida SBDC Network; Enterprise Florida; Florida High Tech Corridor Council and BioFlorida. Since 1982, through the SBIR Program, the Federal Government has provided funding to Small Businesses engaged in innovative research. The Federal Government has committed approximately $2 Billion for this year to provide SBIR/STTR Phase I awards of up to $100,000, and up to $750,000 per project to Small Businesses for Phase II. The SBIR program currently has opportunities being administered by eleven (11) Federal agencies. These SBIR opportunties have Florida resource organizations that support the growth and profitability of companies engaged in product(s) or process(es) for Research Development and/or manufacturing in Florida. The Florida SBDC Network, Federal agencies participating in the SBIR/STTR Programs and Florida resource organizations that support technology and life sciences ventures are convening this conference series and the Proposal Development Workshop. A one day workshop on How to Prepare a Phase I SBIR/STTR Proposal will be presented on Day One at each conference location. On Day Two, SBIR/STTR Program Managers and other Florida technology resource organizations will provide an overview of their programs. Many of the federal Program Managers will also be available during both days for one-on-one consultations with potential SBIR/STTR participants. The purpose of this conference is to provide guidance to Small Businesses, Economic Development, Professional and other Business Service Providers on how to take advantage of this unique program opportunity. Also included are instructions on the preparation of SBIR proposals, assistance on how to identify R&D opportunities in the Federal Government and at Universities and Federal Laboratories. Workshop instructors along with the SBIR/STTR Program Managers from several Federal agencies will provide agency overviews and information on eligibility requirements. Representatives from the Florida SBDC Network, their University sponsors, Florida High Tech Corridor Council, BioFlorida, and Florida PTAC will augment the agenda. General guidance, information on how they can assist Small Businesses to establish joint research relationships with Universities, preparation of Business Plans, contracting requirements, the mentor-protégé program and related topics will be discussed at the conference.
