- This is a Sources Sought (SS) announcement only. This synopsis is issued for the sole purpose of the Business Interface Office, US Army Armament Research Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC) to conduct a market research for Remote Weapon Stations (RWS) and Remote Armament Systems (RAS). This SS should not be construed as a commitment by the Government for any purposes. The purpose of this notice is to investigate and then analyze Remote Weapon Stations (RWS) and Remote Armament Systems (RAS) for use on manned and unmanned vehicles including Ground Vehicles (UGV), Naval Surface (Water) Vehicles (USV), and Air Systems (UAS). These RWS and RAS shall be capable of operating under extreme weather and extreme environmental conditions including cold, hot, salt water, desert sands, snow, and rain. Be capable of being stored up to 20 years in standard Army and Navy facilities in low and high humidity conditions. Responders of this SS should provide extreme temperature and environmental conditions their RWS and RAS can operate in and be stored at. The RWS and RAS capability desired is as follows: (1). Sensors to detect hostile fire and location of fire (2). Sensors to identify type of hostile weapon (3). Utilization of existing army, navy, air-force type classified components (4). Ability to rapidly remove and replace (plug and play) weapons (examples 5.56mm, 7.62mm, 50 cal., 40mm, etc) (5). Ability to fire Crew Served Weapons and/or missiles (6). Ability to fire non-lethal and scaleable weapons (7). Fire control commonality (8). Weapons paring algorithms (auto-tracking and recommended engagement of multiple targets) (9). Stabilization minimum 3 axes, ability to stabilize armaments and missiles on unmanned vehicles for land and water. (10). Light weight systems: cost less than $500K, weight less than 300 lbs not including ammunition and missile weight. (11). Capability to control rotation from 360 degrees to desired rotation of less than 360 degrees. This allows for unmanned vehicle to pick up a passenger. (12). Elevation of +/- 40 degrees (13). Ability to fire 1000 rounds of small caliber ammunition (14). Ability to auto-load and un-jam ammunition, missiles or smart projectiles (15). Ability to fire or deliver other armaments such as robotic mortars, mines and countermines, medium and large caliber weapons up to 120mm.
