- USDA, APHIS has a requirement for a general construction contractor to perform renovations on portions of the NVSL East Animal Wing which has been in operation since March 1976. The Facility contains a total of approximately 39 animal rooms. These animal rooms house small animals such as chickens, birds, rodents and rabbits. In order to maintain accreditation from the Association for Assessment & Accreditation of Laboratory Care International (AAALAC), several repairs have been identified during a recent site visit. Repair items that have been identified are presented in the Statement of Work (SOW)which will be available with the solicitation to be posted on this site. Tasks include but are not limited to removal and replacement of interior light fixtures, removal and installation of flexible water tight conduit, wall and floor repairs, room and corridor epoxy painting, installation of epoxy flooring, metal door modifications and painting, ball and check valve replacement, chrome plated galvanic plumbing, repiping a Basil tunnel wash system, installation of a Government Autoclave and furnish and install wall mounted towel dispensers. During the construction period, the Facility will remain in operation due to its busy schedule. The rooms to be worked in will be scheduled around the scientific and animal care activities. It is anticipated that the animal rooms will be released for repairs in groups of no less than four at a time. Davis Bacon is applicable to this solicitation which will be posted for full and open competition. All responsible proposals will be evaluated and the effort will be awarded as a Firm Fixed Price contract based on best value, not lowest price. The solicitation will be posted to this site between August 15 and August 18 with proposals due by 4:30 pm CST on September 15, 2006. Bid, performance and payment bonds are required. Interested parties should monitor this site for the solicitation and any amendments. A preproposal site visit will be held on August 24, 2006 at 9:30 am.
