Description
Concerns having the ability to furnish the services described herein are required to give written notification (including telephone number for a point of contact) to the procurement office above within 20 days from the data of this synopsis. The USGS, Earth Surfaces Processing Team, required Ar radiometric analyses up to 47 samples of volcanic and plutonic rocks, most of which are of approximately middle Tertiary age. The contractor will provide the accepted high precision radiometric, primarily single crystal laser analyses and submit summary reports of those analyses. Any ancillary data generated from processing the submitted samples, such as chemical and mineralogical data, should be included in the final reports. Necessary qualifications and experience: The contractor must have expertise and facilities to produce accurate, high-precision 40Ar/39Ar radiometric analyses based on single-Crystal laser and resistance furnace methods. Resistance furnace methods must employ double vacuum resistance furnace with molybdenum crucible and crucible liner. Temperature accuracy must be ?10?C with a precision of ?1?C and maximum temperature no less than ? 1750?C. The laser extraction facility must be based on a minimum 50 watt CO2 laser capable of single crystal total-fusion analysis based on J-value determinations from Fish Canyon Tuff (FC- 1) sanidine monitors. System blanks for the laser must be on the order of 2xE-l 6 moles of 40Ar. This expertise and facilities must be sufficient to resolve middle-Tertiary age determinations to two decimal places and be repeatable on sample splits from the same sample. Based on information available at this time, and in accordance with 41 U.S.C. 253 (c) (1), implemented by FAR 5.30201, the Government considers the services specified as a sole source from the New Mexico Institute of Mining & Technology, Socorro, NM, and proposes to negotiate a purchase order with this firm on that basis. However, should additional sources be identified, they will be considered. Firms who feel that they can furnish the required services are invited to submit in writing affirmative response to this announcement, and such other materials which correspond to the required items stated herein. This information will be evaluated and used to determine if competitive opportunities exist. Since no solicitation documents exists, request for such documents without accompanying information will be considered non-responsive to this request without further consideration. This notice may represent the Government's only official notice of this procurement. This requirement is advertised process to point of award.
