Description
DON-SNOTE-060720-002 is hereby deleted and replaced with the following: The goal of Networked Remotely Operated Weapons Systems (NROWS) Phase III will be to create a realistic test facility defended by a network of remotely operated weapons (functional, but without real weapons installed), and to use this facility to evaluate and improve NROWS technology and operational concepts. In this facility many capabilities that might be part of an actual NROWS installation will be implemented. Specifically, this will include: ??? Multiple NROWS deployed in several locations including indoors, outdoors in fixed positions, and on an unmanned ground vehicle ??? Various housing options ??? Key safety features that are necessary for safety certification ??? Optimization of operator interface based on human factors study and prior research ??? Control Center ??? Maintenance Console ??? Sensor integration The Phase III proposal is for procurement of developmental equipment, including software and hardware, from TeleRobotics Corporation (TRC). The proposed procurement will constitute the third follow on phase of the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center, San Diego (SSC SD) Code 2371 Network Remotely Operated Weapon Systems (NROWS) project. The first phase of the NROWS project was a Defense Threat Reduction Agency, DTRA sponsored project beginning in 2003 where work with TRC began as Code 2371 purchased a weapons aiming platform from the aforementioned vendor. As a follow on phase II of the project, collaboration for development continued between Code 2371 and TRC beginning in 2005 and ending in 2006. This phase II effort was facilitated under the procurement contract number N66001-06-M-R332. The phase II effort is in process and intended to bring the NROWS system to a state of field readiness. This phase will conclude with a realistic facility defense scenario demonstration employing three NROWS systems. The current proposed phase III contract will be the third phase of project development and will purchase five NROWS platforms, two ???saddle??? weapons adapters for M240 Machine Guns, and supporting labor from TRC during development. The five NROWS platforms will include two roof mounted housings, one ground-mounted ???Pop-up??? housing, one Standard-size platform with environmental package, and one platform optimized for an unmanned ground vehicle. This follow on phase of NROWS development will make substantial improvements in the network operability of the NROWS systems and bring the NROWS system to a fieldable state. The development plan will focus on bringing the NROWS to the point of readiness for fielding per the original objectives of the DTRA program. SSC SD will work closely with TeleRobotics Corp. (TRC) to accomplish these objectives. Questions concerning this effort should be addressed to madelynn.whittington@navy.mil
