Description
Request for Information (RFI) on Collapsible Shipping and Storage Containers, 1500 lbs. This announcement constitutes an official Request for Information (RFI) as defined in FAR 15.201(c). The intent of the RFI is to identify potential suppliers of containers capable of ultimately providing this requirement in large quantities for the Department of Defense. It is the Navy's intention to procure small quantities of approximately 4 different containers for test and evaluation (Needed in Nov/Dec 06). Following test and evaluation, a procurement of several hundred containers for use in a military exercise is planned (needed by Feb/Mar 07) in conjunction with a Joint Capabilities Technology Demonstration (JCTD). This JCTD is evaluating the Joint Modular Intermodal Container (JMIC) as part of the Joint Modular Intermodal Distribution System (JMIDS). JMIC is expected to be a family of containers potentially including both heavy duty containers (for materials such as ordnance), and lighter duty containers (the subject of this solicitation). If that evaluation demonstrates effectiveness of the JMIC concept, and of the procured containers, the Department of Defense may procure large quantities of similar containers, for general use within the Defense Transportation System (FY-08 and beyond). The future containers will have a common footprint and interface and may also include other heights as well as multiples of the basic footprints for items too large to fit within the basic footprint (double long, double wide, etc). This is neither a Request for Proposal (RFP) nor an Invitation for Bid (IFB), nor can there be any claims levied against the Government as a result of any information submitted by respondents. Responses to this notice are not offers and cannot be accepted by the Government to form a binding contract. Potential uses for the information received may result in future Request for Quotation?s (RFQs), but knowledge of this cannot be construed in any way as a commitment by the Government. Container performance requirements and referenced drawings are attached. The documents and drawing can also be accessed at www.neco.navy.mil . Vendors should submit their responses electronically NLT31 July 2006 to the following: Daniel.damanskis@navy.mil. Phone: 215.697.9730, Fax 215.697.9574
