- Free thining of trees, excluding oak species, that are three feet tall and taller and twelve inches in diameter or less at breast heights (DBH). Use crown spacing as a guide, i.e. space individual trees larger than 12 inches DBH with well developed crowns, or tree groupings (up to 10 smaller trees per group) of ponderosa pine, pinon pine and alligator juniper to a 10 to 20 fee average distance between vertical crwon drip lines of best leave tree/leave tree group. An occasional spacing of 40 feet between drip lines of larger trees and tree groupings with well develped crowns may be required. leave trees should be at least 12 inches DBH. Vary spacing between trees and tree groups across the treatment area to maintain a natural visual appearance. Cut trees below the lowest live limb except when prevented by natural obsticles. Stump height will be less than six inches aboe ground level or less than four inches above natural obstacles. Remove all live limbs below the cutting point. Refer to adjacent completed site(s) for visual comparision. Treatment will be accomplished by manual/mechinical thinning. No skidding will occur. Lop slash wihin 24 inches of ground and scatter away from leave tree/leave tree groups. Cut felled trees into six foot lengths. limit ground disturbing activities to foot traffic and keep vehicles on established roads. Existing roads are 851, 4089, 4245A and 4246J.
