- The Contractor shall remove all old Babbitt from each shoe (including any in the high pressure oil ports or R.T.D. ports) , remove damaged R.T.D.'s from their ports, clean the entire bonding surfaces adequately for tinning, tin the interfacing surface, and reapply new Babbitt metal. No base metal shall be removed from the shoes as a preparation for tinning.
