- This contract requires services for the creation of snags from live Douglas-fir trees by blasting crowns with explosives, girdling tree boles at diameter breast height, and related work. This includes furnishing labor, equipment supervision, transprotation, operating supplies, blasting material, tree climbing equipment, communication equipment and incidentals. Snags will be created by three (3) different methods: 1. Top removal by blasting with explosives, no or few live limbs remaining 2. Top removal by blasting with explosives, 40% to 60% live crown remaining 3. Girdling tree bole at or near breast height (GDBH) The Contractor will be required to climb trees and limb-over live and dead limbs. Entire Crowns shall be removed at a minimum height of 70' above the ground. Low live limbs are to be considered as a percentage of the live crown when the prescription for the tree is to blast out the entire crown. Selected trees shall have their entire tops removed at or above the minimum height. Selected trees for blasting ? of the crown shall have a minimum of 40% and a maximum of 60% of the live crown remaining after the top is blasted. Low live limbs are considered to be a percentage of the live crown in determining percentage of crown to be blasted when the prescription for the tree is to blast ? crown. No trees will be left with an unstable top after treatment. All trees shall have their tops entirely on the ground to be considered complete and acceptable for payment.
