- 81mm M819 RP Body Tubes and Tail Cones Description The U. S. Army ARDEC, Picatinny, NJ intends to issue a solicitation for the manufacture of Body Tubes and Tail Cones for 81mm M819 Red Phosphorus Mortar Cartridges. The basic contract is contemplated to be for an approximate quantity of 13,000 with a potential of four option year requirements included. The Body Tube for the 81mm M819 is comprised of a Steel tube (thin wall) with a length of approx. 9 inches, an ID diameter of 2.94 inches, and an OD that varies from a minimum of 3.160 to is 3.176 The Tail Cone for the 81mm Tail Cones is a forged or machined cone that is made of aluminum. The net configuration is machined. The Front ID diameter of the body tube is machined and assembled into a fuze. The rear diameter is machined to be assembled into a Tail Cone. The M819 RP lap effort will involve the assembly of government furnished material including the Body Tubes and Tail Cones at a production rate of approximately 6,000 a month. Required manufacturing experience with tube (drawn), forge shape (Tail Cone), machining, ultrasonic inspection (UT), and coating for production of the Body Tube and Tail Cone of the 81mm Smoke rounds. The UT equipment must be able to perform inspection for uniformity (freedom from physical defects) in the Tail Cone. High volume production, at least 6k to 9k units per month for any combination of items, is a must have. Competition is limited to U. S. and Canadian sources.
