- This amendment is in response to questions; Question: How do we incorporate the scrap steel surcharge into our bid? Answer: It is NIST?s opinion that this is a surcharge that the steel industry adds into their internal pricing for the disposal of the scrap that is left from manufacturing of the S780 Steel Shot. As this is the cost of doing business, this is a cost that should be included at the Contractor?s discretion. Question: In that the application is for the shot to act as a ballast to protect employees from absorption and radiation, is it possible to add Ferromanganese (75% Mn, 25% Fe) to the drum to bring the manganese content higher? Answer: Any use of Ferromanganese is unacceptable. Question: Can the limit on manganese be lowered somewhat? Answer: NIST requires the range of manganese to remain as stated in the solicitation.
