Description
The Air Force Flight Test Center, Edwards Air Force Base, CA, is seeking sources for an optical payload interface Box with the following capabilities:Remote control capability of some of our KTM tracking mounts should become a reality with the integration, testing and acceptance of the refurbished units equipped with Digital Control Systems. To provide the same remote control capabilities to our current Davro and Pelco lens systems, an I/O device will be required to accept operator inputs (switch closures or control voltages from the Pelco lends control unit). Convert this to an RS232 serial stream, transport it via fiber optic communication equipment, and reconvert it to voltages or relay closures at the KTM electronics bay. The purpose of this document is to outline the technical requirements of the necessary I/O device and provide a high-level block diagram of its integration into the system. Requirements: The requirement below will specify what is necessary to implement basic functions of our lenses (Focus, Iris and Zoom) for the purpose Video Bomb Scoring and Flight Vision support. General Requirements: All I/O units must be mountable in a standard 19-inch equipment rack and be equipped with suitable rack slides; All connectors/hardware used in the construction of the units will be readily-available from multiple sources (COTS) to facilitate maintenance, interfacing and repair; Unit will be able to operate in temperatures as high as 120 degrees Fahrenheit Unit will operate on 115 VAC, 60 hertz power. Technical Requirements: Once fielded for use, the unit will operate independently of all other computing and data processing devices or programs (i.e. it will not require external computer or software interfacing to perform its function). Programming and/or diagnostic functions done by the vendor via a computer interface are obviously permitted. User inputs to the master I/O device (at the operations console) will be grouped with a single connector for each lends controlled (for example: one connector to accept inputs for Lens A, one for Lens B), with no slitting up of lens function inputs between multiple connectors. Outputs of the slave I/O device (at the destination end) will similarly be grouped with a single connector for each lens controlled. Master and slave units will communicate via an RS232 serial connection, in accordance with applicable standards. Inputs to Master Unit (operations console) will meet following specifications: Switch closure type: Two connectors with 8 switch-closure-to-ground inputs each, which activate corresponding relays in the Slave Unit. (These inputs will come from a customer-supplied lens control box by means of DPDT (on) off (on) momentary toggle switches. Relays at the Slave unit will be N.O. until a switch closure to ground is completed at the control box. Voltage/switch closure combo: One connector which will accept 0vdc to +/- 12vdc to ground on 3 input lines (depending on potentiometer setting from customer-supplied control box). These inputs will be converted to digital via ADC and then reconverted via DAC at the Slave Unit to drive lends functions. This input connector will also provide two switch-closer-to-ground inputs, to activate N.O. relays at the Slave Unit. There will be a total of 6 input lines, including common (ground). Outputs from Slave Unit (tracker electronics bay) will meet the following specifications: Switch closure type: Relay closures in response to corresponding Master unit switch inputs shall be rated for 1 amp, 5vdc. They will be N.O. until switch closure is detected. When switch closure is released, they will return to N.O. condition. Voltage/switch closure combo: Relay closures for this connector will meet the same requirements as above. DACs and their associated amplifiers shall provide up to 300 mA at 12vdc (max), depending upon the corresponding voltage input at the Master Unit, for each output line to the lens. The NAICS Code is 333314. This posting is for planning purposes only and does not constitute a solicitation for bid or proposals. It is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government. The Government does not intend to pay for any information provided under this synopsis. Responses shall be limited to 15 pages and should include, as a minimum: evidence of past experience; related projects and/or existing systems, etc; and business size. Interested parties need to identify if they fall into one of the following categories: large business, small business, hub zone small business, veteran owned small business, woman owned small business, or small disadvantaged business. All respondents that can provide any of the requested information should reply to Jonathan Denning at the following email address: jonathan.denning@edwards.af.mil or by mail to 412 TW/ENRB, 306 E Popson Avenue, Edwards AFB, CA 93524.
