Description
The National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) has a requirement to procure the professional services of a Research Nurse (RN). The Unit of Molecular Dysmorphology studies the clinical problems and treatment of children with Smith-Lemi-opitz syndrome (SLOS) and is initiating a new clinical protocol to investigate treatment of Niemann-Pick Type C (NPC). The RN shall have the following requirements: 1) A Registered Nurse with two years, minimum, of pediatric nursing experience; 2) Valid Maryland Nursing license; 3) Successful application for credentialing by the NIH Warren Grant Magnuson Clinical Center; 4) Prior experience working with patients on clinical research protocols. A minimum of two years experience is needed, experience should include multiple (different protocols), and at least two of these protocols shall have included pediatric patients. Pediatric clinical protocol experience should include age range of infants to adolescents; 5) Experience working with special needs children and families of special needs children. This shall include a minimum of two years of experience working with patients who have genetic disorders; 6) The research nurse should have experience working with patients that have mental retardation and/or malformations, and specifically be familiar with the clinical problems associated with Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome patients; 7) The research nurse should have experience working with patients that have neurodegenerative or lysosomal storage disorders. This could include NPC itself or other storage disorders such as Niemann Pick type A or B, Ceroid lipofuscinosis (including infantile (INCL) or juvenile (JNCL) forms), mucolipidoses, or sphingolipidoses; 8) A minimum of one year experience with the CRIS medical ordering and database system. Working knowledge of order entry and laboratory result retrieval; 9) Experience and competence with computer programs including word processing (Microsoft Word), spreadsheet usage for data analysis (Excel), and PowerPoint presentations; 10) Experience, minimum of two years, with the NIH Warren Grant Magnuson Clinical Center nursing policies and procedures; 11) Previous experience, minimum one year, in nursing leadership positions (Equivalent to a Charge Nurse); 12) Ability to work independently in the scheduling and coordination of patient admissions. Demonstrative ability to work with clinical protocol patients, caretakers, NIH Clinical Center professional and ancillary staff; 13) Ability to work closely with and coordinate care with other Heritable Disorder Branch, NICHD clinical personnel. Willingness to cross train on multiple clinical protocols; 14) Ability to perform routine phlebotomy and intravenous catheter placement; 15) Working knowledge of endocrinological and genetic testing; 16) Ability to assist in procedures such as lumbar puncture and skin biopsies; 17) Willingness to assist in basic laboratory procedures such as isolation of serum or preparation of biological/medical samples for further analysis; 18) Interest in participating in clinical protocol design, writing and implementation; 19) Shall have CPR certification. This is for a full time position working 40 hours per week. A Statement of Work will be attached to the Request for Quote (RFQ) package. This is set aside for small businesses. It is anticipated that RFQ NIH-NIDDK-06-790 will be available fifteen (15) days after the publication of this notice. Receipt of quotations will be due ten (10) days after the release of the RFQ. The anticipated award date is April 28, 2006.
