- Friday, March 31st, 6:30 p.m., Craig Ranger District Conference Room, 504 9th Street, Craig, Alaska. Interested parties are invited to attend this meeting that precedes the project solicitation for implementation of the Heceta Island Thinning Study. The Forest Service will describe contract work items in road reconditioning, road construction, and timber harvesting necessary to initiate this Study on Heceta Island. The Forest Service will also describe the structure and elements of the Integrated Resource Service Contract ? Tree Measurement Sale (stewardship) to be used for this project. The Heceta Island Thinning Project is an operational-sized study designed to evaluate a range of thinning treatments in young forest 60 to 70 years of age. A large percentage of the trees marked for removal are commercial size for sawlogs with a mean diameter of 13-14 inches at breast height. Base sawlog volume to be removed in the proposed contract is net 2.39 MMBF. Road reconditioning is necessary on approximately 13.5 miles of existing roads and 1.29 miles of new road construction is required. Parties interested in learning more about this project or those potentially interested in submitting a bid/proposal in response to the future anticipated solicitation for this work are encouraged to attend. Note: This announcement is not a pre-solicitation synopsis, and no solicitation document has been prepared or will be distributed. Should this acquisition proceed past the planning stages, a pre-solicitation synopsis will be placed in FedBizOpps accordingly.
