Description
Medium Caliber Cartridge Case Venting technology The U.S. Army is placing increased emphasis on Insensitive Munitions (IM) to provide a more cost effective, efficient means of storing, transporting and handling munitions items safely. The Strategic Plan prepared by the Program Executive Office for Ammunition (PEO AMMO) mandates that medium and large caliber munitions items be IM compliant. In an effort to address IM compliance for medium caliber munitions (25mm, 30mm and 40mm), the U.S. Army RDECOM-ARDEC, Picatinny Arsenal, NJ, is conducting a Market Survey that seeks to identify available and applicable cartridge case venting technologies (e.g., vent windows, case scoring (inside and/or outside), combustible and polymer based cases, adapters, etc.) that will enhance the reliability and mitigate the reaction of munitions when subjected to unplanned stimuli. Technologies identified for implementation shall meet Insensitive Munitions requirements cited in Military Standard (MIL- STD-2105C) and associated NATO Standards (STANAG) for external fuel fire/fast cook-off, slow heating/slow cook-off, shaped charge jet, bullet impact, fragment impact, and sympathetic reaction/sympathetic detonation. See Numbered Note 9. In addition, ballistic performance and safety of munitions items must not be degraded. Interested responders must demonstrate their venting technologies as well as the ability in applying such technologies to medium caliber munitions to enhance and improve the reaction of the munitions item when subjected to unplanned stimuli in an effort to achieve IM compliance in accordance with MIL-STD-2105C. All responders shall provide a summary of their company's capabilities including the organization???s name/address/point of contact, brief description of the venting technologies to be used, personnel, past experience; and whether the company is a small or large business. This Market Survey is for information and planning purposes only and shall not be construed as a request for proposal (RFP) or as an obligation on the part of the U.S. Government. The U.S. Government will utilize the information provided for planning purposes only. All information submitted will be provided at no cost to the U.S. Government and will be held in a Company Proprietary status. Interested firms shall provide all information requested in this notification within thirty (30) days of this publication by electronic mail to jmcente@pica.army.mil U.S. Army TACOM- Picatinny ATTN: Jeff McEnteer, Building 9 Picatinny, NJ 07806-5000 E-mail: jmcente@pica.army.mil
