Description
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with Marguerite A. Meitzler, 1715 15th St. NW #4, Washington DC. The North American Industry Classification System Code (NAICS) is 611430. To assist postdoctoral, research, and clinical fellows in improving the scientific writing skills by providing instruction in a series of classes entitled. ?Writing About Science? this course is designed to take postdoctoral, research, and clinical fellows step-by-step through the process of organizing and writing a paper. Lectures cover topics from writing the abstract to designing tables and figures. Group reviews and editorial comments help participants prepare that first draft of a manuscript. In addition to assisting fellows to develop a scientific style and providing tips on writing, the course includes information on authorship, factors that determine whether manuscripts are accepted/rejected, the peer review process, and strategies for increasing the chances of being published. In addition, the contractor will be required to provide the following services. 1. develop final outline based on the currently utilized syllabus 2. participate in the selection of students for the course 3. conduct all sessions of the course 4. provide written feedback to all participants 5. work with individual students when necessary 6. provide a weekly evaluation of each student?s assignment 7. provide additional resources to students 8. distribute OITE evaluation to class participants The period of performance is April 1, 2006 through October 30, 2006 afternoon and evening sessions on the NIH campus. It is believed that Ms. Meitzler is the only responsible source that can satisfy the government requirement due to her excellent communication skills, familiarity with the biomedical research environment and good interpersonal skills. Interested parties may identify their interest and capability to competitive quotes. However, all quotes received within 10 days after publication on this synopsis will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
