Description
LAWRENCE LIVERMORE NATIONAL LABORATORY, LAWRENCE BERKELEY NATIONAL LABORATORY, AND SANDIA NATIONAL LABORATORY ANNOUNCE THE INTENT TO APPLY TO DEVELOP USER FACILITY TO PRODUCE AND CHARACTERIZE MICROBIAL PROTEINS AND MOLECULAR TAGS Announcement: The Biological Foundry Partnership (BFP) is a cooperative association of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), and Sandia National Laboratory (SNL). LLNL and LBNL are national security laboratories managed as government-owned, contractor-operated (GOCO), federally funded research and development centers (FFRDCs) by the University of California under contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)/National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). SNL is a government-owned/contractor operated (GOCO) facility managed by Sandia Corporation, a Lockheed Martin Company, for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)/National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). As the three national laboratories are each federally funded research and development centers, each laboratory and the BFP is bound by fairness of opportunity requirements and Federal Acquisition Regulations (FARs). The Genome to Life program (GTL) in the Office of Biological and Environmental Research (OBER) of the Office of Science, U. S. Department of Energy (DOE) has released a draft RFP for a GTL Facility for the Production and Characterization of Protein and Molecular Tag, Funding Opportunity No. DE-PN02-06ER64154 https://e-center.doe.gov/iips/faopor.nsf/UNID/036C90C51E5B565685257111007D1111/$file/GTL+PN0206ER64154+GrantsGov+Feb+10+Amd+001.pdf The facility will advance the understanding of individual microbes and of microbial communities. The BFP intends to pursue this opportunity and submit an application to develop a scientific user facility for the Production and Characterization of Proteins and Molecular Tags for the benefit of the scientific community. Specifically, the Facility will provide high-throughput production and characterization of a wide range of microbial proteins from cultivated and uncultivated microbes, and will make available such proteins and associated affinity reagents for use by the scientific community in their individual research projects. The availability of these resources will free the nation?s scientists to apply their energies to understanding, advancing, and harnessing the full potential of microbial organisms for energy production and environmental remediation. For parties interested in supporting and/or working with the BFP on the proposed user facility for the Production and Characterization of Proteins and Molecular Tags, please respond in writing to the BFP by March 15, 2006 addressing each of the items listed below. BFP will respond back by April 11, 2006. 1. Name, location(s) and descriptions including a. Recent annual report or other overview of your organization and the team that you are proposing in response to the draft RFP b. Experience relevant to the Production and Characterization of Proteins and Molecular Tags c. Experience with Department of Energy and National Laboratories 2. Point of contact with title, address, phone, and email Written responses should be addressed to: Melissa Simpson Sandia National Laboratory 7011 East Avenue, MS 9915 Livermore, CA 94550 msimpso@sandia.gov Telephone: 925-294-3143 Fax: 925-294-1339 Attn: FBO 123-06
