Description

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Center for Neutron Research (NCNR) has a requirement for twenty (20) Oriented Pyrolytic Graphite Filters for use by researchers involved in fundamental physics research, neutron interferometry and neutron optics. The objective of this procurement is to provide the NCNR with the capability of rejecting unwanted high energy neutrons from the Multi Axis Crystal Spectrometer (MACS) a cold neutron detection system. The desired filters should have the shape of a truncated rectangular pyramid and can be built as laminated structures. The neutron beam will travel along the central axis over a total length of 50 mm. The graphite c- axis shall be oriented parallel to the central axis of the filter blocks. The mosaic distribution Full with at Half Maximum (FWHM) shall be less than 15 degrees. Neutron transmission through the material must be 11.6meV neutrons. Delivery shall be FOB DESTINATION, Gaithersburg, Maryland. This requirement is being procured using simplified acquisition procedures under the authority of FAR part 13, under full and open competition. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 325414, and the size standard is 500 Employees. However, this requirement is unrestricted and all interested Contractors may submit a quote. The competitive Request for Quotation (RFQ), subsequent amendments, all questions and answers related to this procurement will be made available via the Internet at http://www.fedbizopps.gov under RFQ number SB134106Q0227. The RFQ is anticipated for release to the vendor community on or about March 6, 2006, and will only be available via the Internet at the above web site. Potential Offerors are responsible for accessing the web site. Interested parties must respond to the RFQ in order to be considered for award of any resultant contract. There is no written solicitation document available, telephone requests will not be honored, and no bidders list will be maintained.
