Description
This Request for Information (RFI) is the initiation of market research under Part 10 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), and is not a Request for Proposals (RFP). The Government does not intend to pay for any information furnished pursuant to this RFI. The DoD Power Sources Technology Working Group (PSTWG) and the Joint Defense Manufacturing Technology Panel (JDMTP) working through the Next-Generation Manufacturing Technology (NGMTI) Program, is soliciting expressions of interest from U.S. industry, academic organizations, and other government agencies regarding the creation of a Strategic Investment Plan for Power Source Systems. The topic encompasses power source technologies including batteries, fuel cells, supercapacitors, hybrid systems, and other potential solutions to meet the challenges of providing power for military uses including communication electronics, aviation, weapons, space, vehicular power, and special applications. An initial 3-day strategic planning workshop is scheduled for February 28 to March 2, 2006 in Knoxville, TN. This workshop will develop the general content of the Power Source Systems Strategic Investment Plan and establish a foundation for further planning for potential R&D projects. Due to space constraints and the need to ensure a balance of industry and government perspectives, participation in the workshop is by invitation only. If you are interested in attending this workshop, please complete the short information questionnaire posted below and return it together with your firm?s qualifications via email by 15 February to Anthony Hawkins at LogR&D@navy.mil. Questionnaire To assist us in selecting the appropriate team to develop the Power Source Systems Strategic Investment Plan, we are asking interested parties to respond to the following questionnaire. 1. If so, please identify and briefly describe your program(s)/application(s): 2. In your opinion, what technical issues present the greatest barrier to providing electrical power to current and future warfighter equipment? 3. What technical topics might benefit most from creation of a strategic plan to guide collaborative, industry/government research and development of power source technologies? 4. What new or future power source technologies should the DoD pursue beyond batteries, fuel cells, supercapacitors, and hybrids? 5. What technical area(s) do you represent? 6. Please provide any roadmaps - to share in advance - with your submittal of this questionnaire. 7. Please provide your contact information: a. Name b. Company c.
