Description
Camp 4 Dam Mod will mainly involve the following: 1. Provide temporary spillway crossing (about $70,000-my guess, not from D-8170) 2. Stripping - 145 cy (most from crest of the dam, rest for access road) 3. Clear and grub the Downstream slope of the dam 4. Embankment excavation - 230 cy 5. Remove 26 trees and stumps from the D/S side of the dam and within 10' of the toe of the dam 6. Fill 610 cy a. Raise dam 3' b. Fill in holes on the D/S side of the dam 7. Remove, to the extent funding permits, 6000 cy of reservoir sediments (amount depends on unit price as funding is limited) 8. Furnish and install new slide gate (for a 30" dia RCP) 9. Furnish and install new trashrack panels - estimated weight = 2,700 lb Also, there will be removal of water (to facilitate installing new slide gate and trashrack panels) and diversion and care of stream during construction. (NOTE: this is not an underwater operation) Reservoir sediments are expected to be very saturated, high in fine content and little sandy material. Conditions may be very similar to what was encountered at Camp 5 Dam where Contractor had difficulty in removing the sediments. Dam is about 13' high and has a crest length of about 150'. Built in about 1933, located within Prince William Forest Park and is located about 40 miles south of Washington DC. I-95 along the east boundary of the Park. If you are SERIOUSLY interested in seeing the specifications and drawings for this work when they come out (approximately within the next 30-days) please contact Bill Holbert with the Bureau of Reclamation at the following email address: bholbert@do.usbr.gov
