- Description
- The U.S. assistance program in Haiti supports U.S. economic, democracy, humanitarian and national security interests. The United States has made its largest financial investment in the areas of HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, food security, economic development, development and support of democratic institutions, and most recently, in the support of the Interim Government of Haiti (IGOH). In addition to the normal development and humanitarian efforts, a large reconstruction program was begun in the fall of 2005 in response to the disastrous results of Tropical Storm Jeanne. The normal strategic plan end date would have been 2004. Due to the extraordinary situation in the country, the strategic plan end date has been extended to 2006.
