Description
With this Partnership Opportunity Document, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center seeks a partner who can define a Sail Imaging Metrology System (SIMS) for the concept definition or Phase A study of the ST9 Solar Sail mission. The selected SIMS partner will work closely with the Solar Sail Concept Definition Study Team during the concept definition study and will provide inputs describing the SIMS for the Solar Sail Concept Definition Study Report. The SIMS is intended to provide: 1) a ?global? image of the sail during and after deployment; 2) a high-resolution image of any specific region of the sail; and 3) measurement of static and dynamic shape of the sail. A SIMS concept that meets minimum measurement requirements (see Table 1 attached) and tight resource allocations (see Table 2 attached) is needed. Approaches for achieving elements of the full performance measurement within resource allocations are also sought (see right-most column in Table 1 attached). Potential partners must respond with proposals for space imaging systems based upon mature hardware previously developed or currently in development. They may indicate reliance on NASA-provided extraction of shape data from the images the SIMS provides or propose alternative methodology for determining sail shape. Potential partners must specify the dimensions of required booms or other structure. At their option, they may also specify a particular boom or other structural solution. The response for this POD is due by 6:00 pm EST on January 6, 2006. An electronic PDF document may be sent at this time to Robin.Mauk@nasa.gov This solicitation/synopsis is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government nor will the Government pay for the information solicited. An ombudsman has been appointed. See Internet Note ?B?. The documents for this partnership opportunity will be in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format and will reside on a World Wide Web (WWW) server, which may be accessed using a WWW browser application.
