Description
The items to be procured are safety pawl (P/N 12524384, NSN 3040-01-167-8326) & pawl safety actuator (P/N 12524523, NSN 3040-01-369-6635). The safety pawl (P/N 12524384) is a critical component to operation and safety of the M242 25MM Automatic Gun. The safety pawl, when engaged, is responsible for stopping the striking action of the firing pin and preventing discharge of the round. This part is installed in the track assembly. It interacts with a manual handle and the safety pawl actuator to allow the crew to place the weapon in a no-fire position. This is the only way that the operator can manually safe the weapon. It is a mandatory componen t to proper gun operation. Without the safety pawl, the M242 cannot perform its intended mission. The Safety Pawl is made of hardened corrosion resistant steel that is shaped either by machining bar stock or by molding an investment casting. In addition to mechanical inspections, the Safety Pawl is inspected using liquid penetrant to ensure that no defects are present. The pawl safety actuator (P/N 12524523) is a critical component to operation and safety of the M242 25MM Automatic Gun. This part is used to engage the safety pawl, which is responsible for stopping the striking action of the firing pin and preventing disc harge of the round. The pawl safety actuator attaches to a manual handle and is turned to engage or disengage the safety pawl. This part is located in the track assembly. It is a mandatory component to proper gun operation. Without the pawl safety actuator , the M242 cannot perform its intended mission. The Safety Actuator is made of hardened alloy steel that is subjected to magnetic particle inspection to ensure no defects are present. The solicitation will result in the award of a 3 Year Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) type contract with guaranteed minimum quantity of 2,479 for the safety Pawl (P/N 12524384). Proposals received in response to the solicitation, when issu ed, will be evaluated using Best Value procedures.
