Description
The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) is interested in receiving information on commercially available Disintegrator Destruction Systems that will meet our specified requirements for its Washington, DC facility. The BEP is not issuing a solicitation at this time, but rather would like to review product literature and pricing as part of market research to determine interest and capability of potential sources for this requirement. Proposals submitted in response to this Request for Information shall include drawings depicting, if applicable, any system components, their individual dimensions, and an overall system footprint. Proposals should also include voltage and amperage requirements for each component as well as information regarding its testing, delivery, installation and training in its operation and maintenance. The Disintegrator Destruction System will have the following capabilities and requirements: a. Type: 5 blades solid steel welded rotor with three (3) bed knife cutting chamber b. Capacity: minimum 3000lb/hour with resulting disintegrated particle being no bigger than .375 inches long by .125? wide. c. Reinforced .0937 inch security screen d. Feed opening: 22 inches by 38 inches e. Precision balanced solid rotor with five (5) three bed cutting knives and two (2) stationary knives incorporating a slant cutting design for both rotating and stationary knives. f. Speed : 585 rpm with 5850 cuts per minute. g. 75 HP 460 Volt 3-phase 60 Hz motor. h. Drive System: V-belts (8), 28? flywheel. i. Maintenance: Cutting chamber must have access via system access door. j. System will be supplied with an adjustable speed feed conveyor (30 inch wide belt). Conveyor to be equipped with a sound-treated tunnel, load limit controller, and inception ? Nose over Hopper? mount for easy loading and a secure seal. Conveyor should incorporate a rail guided system. k. Sound Enclosure: The system(s) will be equipped with a stand-alone sound enclosure, which is of METAL construction. Walls will be minimum 4? thick, with drywall lining and include a sound absorbing mineral wool with a density of 6 pounds per cubic foot. Vibration Isolator Pads will also be supplied to reduce sound. l. Master Control Panel with feed rate and hour meters. NOTE: Disintegrator system must be able to connect to BEP in-house 900 CFM, 6? Air Vacuum System previously installed. m. Parts/Supply package with the following: TWO Spare set of knives, spare security screen, spare set of knife bolts, and set of V-Belts. The equipment shall meet the following safety requirements: n. The System shall be designed to prevent injury to operation and service personnel at all times. o. Sharp edges and corners, which present personnel hazards, shall be guarded or padded. p. All machine hazards including those presented by rotating and reciprocating parts shall be guarded as specified by OSHA regulation 29 CFR 1910.212. Covers and guards shall be fixed to the machine and shall provide easy access for maintenance and repair. q. Heated surfaces shall not exceed 135?F (57.2? C) during continuous operation. r. Electrical Interlocks shall be provided to prevent unauthorized manual or power operation of the equipment. All equipment covers and safety guards shall be interlocked to remove power to the equipment while any cover or guard is open or absent. s The noise produced by the operation of the equipment shall not exceed 85 dBA when measured three feet from the equipment at a height of 5 ? ft (1.397 meter). t. Vibration produced by the operation of the equipment at any speed to meet the specified production requirements and its impact to the building shall be minimized. Vibration isolation devices shall be provided to prevent vibrations from entering the facility. u. Emergency Stop Buttons shall be provided at strategic locations to stop the equipment within 0.5 second. Emergency stop buttons shall be of the pronounced mushroom type, red in color. Emergency stop buttons shall remain activated with blinking red light once depressed until manually reset.
