Description
Wednesday, November 30 at 9:30 a.m.-11:30 am. PTAP staff will present an introductory seminar on RFID What is the Purpose? The seminar will be presented at Mason Enterprise Center, PTAP, 4031 University Drive, First Floor Room 106 Training Room. Since this is a pilot for future courses, there is no fee. Space will be limited, please sign up early to reserve a space. RFID technology is a means of identifying a unique object or a person using a radio frequency transmission RFID is a highly reliable way to electronically control, detect and track a variety of items using FM transmission methods. A small tag, or transponder, affixed to or embedded into virtually any object (including livestock) individually identifies the object using a unique, factory-programmed, unalterable code. The Office of Management and Budget released a final rule on 13 Sept 2005 regarding the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS). This regulatory clause has been in the approval process since Spring 2005. This approval now means that all new contracts executed with DoD suppliers who send material to Defense Distribution Depot, Susquehanna, PA (DDSP) and Defense Distribution Depot, San Joaquin, CA (DDJC) need to apply RFID Tags at the case and palletized unit load levels when shipping packaged operational rations, clothing, individual equipment, tools, personal demand items, or weapon system repair parts. This Federal Acquisition regulation becomes effective 60 days from the publication date of the announcement in the Federal register, therefore 14 November 2005. To register call either Mary at 703-277-7757 or Raymond at 703-277-7705. Or you can register at the PTAP web site on-line http://www.gmu.edu/gmu/PTAP/.
