Description
It is the intent of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS), to acquire on a sole-source basis pursuant to FAR 6.302-1 with RVM Scientific, Inc., Santa Barbara, CA, to make technical improvements to a prototype low thermal mass gas chromatograph (LTM GC)/Agilent 5973 mass selective (MS) detector prototype instrument. The improvements will include: addition of a back pressure regulation; hardening of the instrument for field use; enhancement of the GC heating control; and integration and evaluation of the upgrades. This proposed acquisition is making modifications to the prototype designed and fabricated by RVM Scientific, approximate two years. RVM Scientific designed and fabricated the prototype LTM GC/Agilent 5973 MSD combination for USUHS which combined components from their commercial LTM GC retrofit product for the Agilent 6890 GC with an injector and the Agilent 5973 mass selective detector. The resulting gas chromatograph with mass spectrometric detection is a prototype system demonstrating the ability to control the temperature of the analytical column over a wide temperature range, from 5C above ambient to over 300C, with temperature ramping at rates above 100C per minute. This will be done without a traditional air bath oven for the analytical column, eliminating substantial footprint, bulk, and power consumption compared to a traditionally-designed system, while increasing the speed of the system for completing analysis.
