Description
The VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System (VAPHS), Pittsburgh, PA intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with Beckman Coulter, Inc., Clinical Diagnostic Division, 520 Madison Ave., 9th Floor, New York, NY 10022 for a Chemistry Automation System consisting of Power Processor (Part #A23226); Chem Xpress (Part #A11037); Stockyard, 3000 Tube (Part #A23233); Secondary Decapper (Part #6707343); Recapper (Part #A23236); and Dxl Connector (Part #A23230). The current Chemistry analyzers used at the VAPHS University Drive Division are exclusively Beckman Coulter, Inc. Chemistry analyzers. This population of analyzers represents a significant Capital Expenditure investment by the VAPHS. Consequently, the option of changing to the instrumentation of another vendor is not a justifiable expenditure. Other critical and unique features in Performance and Functionality supporting this sole source acquisition from Beckman Coulter, Inc. for its Automation Line are as follows: 1) The existing LX20s Chemisitry and DxI Immunochemistry analyzers can only be connected to the BCI Automation Line because no other Automation vendors have contacted BCI to develop their interface capabilities related to Automation. 2) Unique Single Point of Entry for muliple tube loading of Automation Inlet with STAT interrupt capability. 3) Sample Log-In - "receive sample into Lab LIS" at first bar code reader. 4) Ability to sort "unspun" samples - Hematology, Coagulation, Urines. 5) Ability for one centrifuge to spin up to 350 sample tubes per hour. 5) If necessary, ability to "bypass" the centrifuge for samples already spun. 6) Physical "hookup" to BCI chemistry and immunochemistry instruments. 7) Experience with USVA, VISTA LIS for interfacing to instrumentation and Automation. 8) DL2000 Data Manager with elaborate and customized decision rules. 9) Abilitiy to network DL2000s/Middleware to view results from all instruments at any DL2000. 10) "Back end" 3060 tube refrigerated stockyard units available for stroage and automatic retrieval of samples. 11) Outlet units availablel for sorting "send-outs" and other off-line testing workstations. 12) Significant population of BCI Automation Installed Base (over 250 placements) throughout USA. 13) Over 750 dedicated Service/Application reps. and 14) Proven and independently documented Open System - 7 vendors and 16 different models. If your firm has chemistry automation equipment which can meet all the above requirements, please submit supporting information to Linda Glancy@med.va.gov or to Linda Glancy (04A-H), VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System, 7180 Highland Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15206 NLT 9/15/05 COB. The VAPHS will make a determination as to whether a competitive solicitation will be issued. Technical questions can be directed to Cheryl Wanzie, Chief Medical Technologist at (412) 688-6544.
