- The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Panama City, FL, (NSWC PC) intends to solicit competitive proposals for the design and fabrication of a high performance lift fan system for the Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC) based on a performance specification to be provided by the Navy. This requirement will be fulfilled using full and open competition. The high performance lift fan basically consists of the rotor and bellmouth assembly and will be designed for efficient operation in the present LCAC volute. There will be three major requirements for the high performance lift fan system; (1) increased aerodynamic fan efficiency, (2) reduced maintenance cost and time, and (3) reduced weight, compared to the existing LCAC lift fan system. Quantified goals and threshold values for the three requirements shall be provided in the RFP. In order to meet these requirements, a combination of innovative designs, advanced materials, and fabrication and assembly methods may be required. A new lift fan system that meets these requirements will result in an improved range, increased payload capacity and the reduced life-cycle cost of future and, potentially existing assault connectors. The Government may potentially award multiple contracts as a result of the RFP subject to availability of funding.
