Description
The US Air Force (USAF) Air Warfare Battlelab (AWB) is exploring commercial/government off-the-shelf (COTS/GOTS) technologies related to radar technology and/or products that will reduce the vulnerability of aircraft to Foreign Object Damage (FOD) and update the current procedures with modern technology. The system would be used at airfields in all types of operating environments, home station and deployed. System should have an operating temperature range of -25 to 125 F and a storage range of -80 to 160 F to be usable at all of the current locations. Also, system is able to withstand exposure to harsh weather environments, to include but not limited to, sand, rain, snow and freezing rain. One objective of this initiative is to determine to what extent a FOD radar can meet or exceed the environmental constraints imposed by today?s operating environments. Specific desired operational characteristics of the FOD radar system include the following: system should be capable of detecting objects 10 mm in size; system should not produce any interference with other operating systems; system should be deployable and easily installed on airfield; and the system should use an available power source. Through this RFI, the Air Force is requesting information concerning emerging technologies for FOD radar.
