Description

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Acquisition Management Division, on behalf of the Precision Engineering Division, intends to negotiate on a sole source basis under the authority of 41 U.S.C. 253 ( c)(1) only one source to provide services with the FEI Company, Hillsboro, OR 97124-4579. The services being procured are preventive and restorative services to include all parts and labor to maintain a FEI model CM30ST/ STEM Transmission Microscope serial number D633. NIST requires the vendor provide all parts, labor and materials to maintain the transmission microscope in ?like new condition.? The services must be performed by a certified FEI trained technician and only certified FEI authorized parts may be used in the performance of this work effort. The Transmission Microscope shall be maintained to the tolerances of traceable standards that are universally recognized by the scientific community. The equipment is used in research and in the development of scientific knowledge and processes that will be interpreted and utilized throughout the world of science. All processes must be reproducible by others incorporating the same procedures on the same equipment. Market research has not revealed an alternative source. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 334516, and the size standard of 500 employees. Offerors certain they can meet the requirement are requested to submit in writing an affirmative response and technical capabilities. All written responses must include a written narrative statement of capability, including detailed technical information demonstrating their ability to meet the above requirements. Failure to submit such documentation will result in the government proceeding as stated above. A determination by the Government not to open the requirement to competition based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Affirmative written responses must be received no later than seven (7) days after publication of this synopsis.
