Description
The Navy anticipates award of a service contract that will cover FY 06-08 service requirements related to the Trident, Los Angeles, Virginia, and Seawolf submarine storage batteries. This will be a sole source procurement to Exide Technologies, Aurora, IL. based on FAR 6.302-1, only one source capable of meeting the Government?s requirements. A firm-fixed price contract is anticipated. Requirements covered will be field and maintenance services for Exide main storage batteries on submarines that are in service (i.e., not under construction). The majority of batteries currently in use are flooded lead acid batteries but the Navy is transitioning to Valve-Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA batteries); installation of batteries will begin to shift away from flooded lead acid to VRLA batteries. As part of the field services effort the contractor will be required to make routine visits at least once a year to each submarine as authorized by the Government, and make emergency v! isits as authorized. The maintenance portion of the effort requires the contractor to have a complete maintenance program for all batteries on submarines. Requirements specific to battery type require assistance in the planning, installation, testing, checkout, adjustment, disassembly and repair of submarine battery cells; and performance of on-the-job instruction and training of Navy personnel (military and/or civilian). It is estimated that the 4.5 man-years per year will be necessary to complete requirements. The applicable NAICS classification is 541330 and the size standard is $23M. A Confidential Security Clearance is required. Interested parties may submit inquiries or request a copy of the solicitation by sending a fax to the number shown above or send a request via e-mail to mailto:roger.brett@navy.mil. The solicitation will be available on or about 9 August 2005 via the Internet at the NSWC Crane Homepage at http://www.crane.navy.mil and will close on or ab! out 9 September 2005. Point of contact is Mr. Roger Brett, Code 1164ER, telephone 812-854-5269, fax 812-854-5666, or e-mail roger.brett@navy.mil (preferred method of communication).
