Description
Opportunity to license ORNL?s patented statistical method and/or software for analysis of noisy, time-serial data in order to detect and forewarn of on-coming events in applications ranging from biomedical to industrial. Demonstrated biomedical applications to date include: forewarning (up to 4.5 hours) of human epileptic seizures from scalp electroencephalogram (EEG) data; forewarning of ventricular fibrillations and fainting (syncope) from human electrocardiogram (ECG) data; detection of septic shock due to inhaled endotoxin from rat ECG; and detection of breathing difficulty from chest sounds (with potential application in the remote monitoring of solders, emergency responders, etc). R&D Magazine recently announced that the EEG implementation, known as ?SeizAlert,? is a 2005 winner of its R&D100 award. Demonstrated industrial applications to date include: forewarning of failures in electric motors (air-gap offset, broken rotor, turn-to-turn short, and imbalance); motor-driven components (gears, bearings, pumps [imbalance and misalignment], rotating blades, drill bit wear) using a variety of process-indicative data (torque, vibration, electrical power, voltage, current); and forewarning via time-serial stress and strain data of structural failure by cracking. Details of related publications and patents are located at http://computing.ornl.gov/cse_home/staff/hively.shtml. To date, licenses have been issued in forewarning of epileptic seizures, detection of cardiovascular disease, and monitoring for prediction of cardiovascular events. All remaining biomedical, industrial, economic/financial, and other application areas remain available for licensing. The technology transfer process will be facilitated through licensing of UT-Battelle?s intellectual property, and subsequent development undertaken cooperatively between UT-Battelle and the licensee, funded by the licensee. Such development will focus on transitioning the technology from the current laboratory demonstration stage to commercialization. Interested companies with experience and expertise commensurate with the requirements of this commercialization effort are invited to respond to this announcement. Companies interested in this opportunity may obtain more detailed technical information and a description of the licensing and cooperative research and development process by submitting a statement of interest, including a written description of their company and its activities and an explanation of their potential application of the technology. No licensing intermediaries please. This is not a procurement activity. EMAILADD: bosleybr@ornl.gov.
