Description
NAICS Code: 541990 The National Homeland Security Research Center (NHSRC) at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Research Triangle Park, NC, is seeking an individual, at least 18 years of age. Applicants must have received their degree within the past two years or be a current student (in good standing enrolled in a degree program, not necessarily carrying a full course load, but pursuing a degree at a recognized educational institution) to provide personal services under a contractual agreement to support the NHSRC on a project designed to characterize the gasification of agricultural biomass and Animal Tissue Biomass (ATB). The student will be responsible for setting up, conducting, and recording data obtained from the experiment. Prior gasification experience is required. The selected applicant should also have knowledge of basic chemistry and/or engineering principles. The level of academic education needed would include courses in fluid mechanics, mechanics and statics. The student shall have experience working in teams. The applicant must have completed at least one year of graduate studies in science, engineering, or related curriculum, with a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The applicant must be well-organized and possess the ability to maintain a variety of files and documents with good written and oral communications skills. U.S. citizens are eligible to participate in this program. Non-U.S. citizens may be eligible to participate depending on their immigration status and the applicable regulations of the Bureau of Citizenship and immigration Service (BCIS,) formerly known as the Immigration and Naturalization Service. Graduate students or recent graduates who are ORD employees, or the spouse or child of an EPA ORD employee, are not eligible to participate. Students who perform under contract to EPA are required to undergo a background investigation consisting of a check of Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) name and fingerprint files, and a suitability determination. Selected students will be provided copies of the appropriate forms and instructions on their completion and submission requirements. This work is expected to begin approximately September 1, 2005, for a period of twelve (12) months through September 1, 2006, anticipating 40 hours per week, approximating 1928 total hours, thereafter to include an optional performance period of an additional 12 months through September 1, 2007, for an additional 1928 hours, at the discretion of the EPA. Extension or continuance beyond 24 months is prohibited. The principal duty station location is Research Triangle Park, NC. The hourly rate of pay is commensurate with the level of education and experience, as follows: $14.20per hour, for students who have completed a BA/BS degree from an accredited institution; $17.60 per hour for students who have completed a BA/BS degree from an accredited university and have completed at least 1 year of graduate school.
