Description
. The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) is interested in initiating an X-ray based structural biology program spanning from molecules to man. As part of this program, we are looking into investing in a ?near? monochromatic X-ray source for investigational purposes. The target specifications/parameters for the NHLBI pulsed x-ray source is: (1) peak flux, ph/pulse = 10^10; (2) repetition rate, Hz = 1 to 10 (up to 1kHz in the future); (3) average flux, ph/s = 10^11 to 10^13; (4) peak brilliance, ph/(s mm^2 mrad^2 1%bw) = 10^23; (5) wavelength range A - 0.4 to 45; (6) energy range, keV = 0.28 to 30; (7) energy bandwidth, % = 0.1 to 10; (8) pulse width, ps < 10; (9) source size, um = <20; (10) divergence, mrad = <2; (11) tunability = repetition rate, bandwidth, wavelength; (12) coherence = partial, transverse; (13) suggested dimensions, m = 3 x 5 x 1.5. As the industry leaders of monochromatic x-ray source, your comments are requested regarding the Government?s target specifications / parameters as to what might be available to the government if it chooses to proceed along these lines to purchase an instrument or instruments. The Government is particularly interested in whether your company or organization would be interested in working with us to build such a device, under contract. In addition, any comments with regard to the specifications being achievable, or exceeded by your technology, would be appreciated since we are attempting to generate a request that will be at the state-of-the-art. Our plan is to issue a formal request for proposals in fiscal year 2006 (October 1, 2005 through September 30, 2006). Prior to October 1, 2005, an industry meeting is contemplated to discuss different approaches and solutions to this problem. Interested parties are requested to submit the name, address, telephone and contact person of their organization and any questions and / or comment regarding this notice. All responses to this notice may be submitted in writing or electronically referencing number NHLBI-PS-(HL)2005-137 to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, Contracts Operations Branch, Procurement Section, Building RKL2, Suite 6042, 6701 Rockledge Drive, Bethesda, MD 20892-7902, Attention Ms. Debra C. Hawkins, Chief Procurement Section, hawkinsd@nhlbi.nih.gov . Responses are requested to be submitted not later than August 31, 2005.
