Description
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) plans to award a purchase order to the University of Minnesota for “MPO/State DOT Travel Survey Archive”. Under the BTS grant, investigators formally contacted the 50 largest Metropolitan Planning Organizations. Several paper reports were received and were digitized and posted to the webpage. Presently there are over 60 surveys from 28 metro areas and states together with documentation and reports available on the project web page. There are nearly 60 different data formats making tabulations from each survey or a combination of surveys very difficult. The main objective of the project is to organize the data into a standard format to allow for easy queries. The project will use the Data Documentation Initiative (DDI) a metadata standard used for documenting datasets developed in European and North American data archives, libraries and official statistics agencies. The “Metropolitan Travel Survey Archive” was funded by the United States Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics from 2003 to 2004 (funding expires in mid-2004) under the “BTS research grants” program. It is now housed at the University of Minnesota at http://www.surveyarchive.org). This project is a continuation of the BTS project. This travel survey archive is the only place in the United States where this work has occurred. Moving it to another location would require extensive effort and would result in higher costs and delays due to loss of experience and familiarity with the archived datasets. No other known source possesses the knowledge required to successfully provide this service. This is a Simplified Acquisition and the anticipated award date is on or about June 7th, 2005. NOTE: THIS NOTICE MAY HAVE POSTED ON WWW.FEDBIZOPPS.GOV ON THE DATE INDICATED IN THE NOTICE ITSELF (25-MAY-2005). IT ACTUALLY APPEARED OR REAPPEARED ON THE FEDBIZOPPS SYSTEM ON 05-JUL-2005, BUT REAPPEARED IN THE FTP FEED FOR THIS POSTING DATE. PLEASE CONTACT fbo.support@gsa.gov REGARDING THIS ISSUE.
