Description
The National Institutes of Health (NIH), MRI Research Facility (NMRF) in the intramural program of National Institutes of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), intends to procure on a sole-source basis with Resonance Research Inc., Pinehurst Business Park, 10 Cook Street, Billerica, MA 01821 for a 23 gauss/cm shielded gradient coil to be used in conjunction with their Government owned 4.7T Bruker Avance MRI instrument which is currently in use in the MRI Research facility. The gradient coil presently in the 4.7T MRI is unable to provide the gradient strengths necessary for high resolution imaging and diffusion tensor imaging of non-human primates. The new gradient coil will yield better spatial and temporal resolution in the studies performed on the 4.7T Bruker Avance MRI which will provide valuable biological information about the source and cause of several diseases. The new gradient coil must meet the following requirements: 1) have a peak gradient strength of at least 23 gauss/cm on all three axes using a 300A, 600V gradient amplifier; 2) have an inner diameter of 260mm; 3) have an outer diameter of less than 400mm; 4) be actively shielded; 5) be equipped with B0, linear, and quadratic shim channels; 6) have a high bandwidth shim amplifier; and 7) be capable of operating with the hardware and software currently in the 4.7T scanner. The Resonance Research Inc. gradient coil is compatible with the existing equipment and the only system known to the NINDS researcher that can meet the aforementioned requirements. This item is commercial as defined in FAR Part 2, and this acquisition is being made in accordance with the test program using simplified procedures for certain commercial items as authorized in FAR 13.5. This is not a request for competitive quotation. However, if any interested party believes it can meet the above requirement, it may submit a statement of capabilities. The statement of capabilities and any other information furnished must be in writing and must contain material in sufficient detail to allow the researcher to determine if the party can perform this requirement. An original and one copy of the capability statements must be received in the contracting office by 2:00 p.m. EDT, on June 29, 2005. Faxed and emailed capability statements are NOT authorized. All questions must be in writing and can be faxed to (301) 402-4513 or emailed to dm170b@nih.gov . It is the vendor?s responsibility to call (301) 402-4509 to insure questions have been received. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed requirement based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. No collect call will be accepted. NAICS: 334516; Size Standard is 500 employees.
