- A brief description of the requirement: The Longstreet Fire burned approximately 1500 acres on the Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge In August of 2004. A BAER specification was approved to have plant material grown for emergency stabilization and rehabilitation efforts with in the burned area by federal or private nurseries. The Community College of Southern Nevada (CCSN) was contacted by the Service to grow the plants for the refuge due to their ability to grow the large quantities specified in the plan and also their proximity to the refuge. The college has the expertise and is fully equip to grow the species and quantities needed for the project. CCSN grows native plant material for other government agencies within the Mojave desert and is known to produce high quality seedlings for desert restoration purposes. Because of their close proximity to the refuge which is important for outplanting success and their specialized experience in growing healthy and well developed seedlings of the native species needed the Service is requesting that the CCSN nursery be used as the source for plant materials for the Longstreet Fire Emergency Stabilization and Rehabilitation specifications
