- The US Army, RDECOM, Picatinny Center for Contracting and Commerce, Picatinny, NJ, is conducting a market survey to identify potential sources for the manufacture, inspection, testing, and delivery of calcium silicide per MIL-C- 324B. This calcium silicide is presently used in pyrotechnic mixtures. The intent of this survey is to see if any legitimate pyrotechnic manufacturer has the capacity to produce calcium silicide will satisfy the requirements for MIL- C-324B without requiring the US Army to spend any development costs to modify, test, and safety certify the item or incur any additional costs based on the service requirements or legal requirements before the end item is bought and used. The procurement will be for 5 years with the anticipated quantities of approximately 500 pounds each year. Of course, the quantities can change depending on usage and funding available. The chemical characteristics of the end item shall meet the following criteria: Moisture, maximum: 0.1 % by weight Silicon, minimum: 60.0 % by weight Total iron, maximum: 3.0% by weight Calcium, minimum: 32.0% by weight The granulation characteristics of the end item shall meet the following criteria: Retained on 149-micron (No. 100) sieve: maximum 1 percent by weight Retained on 105-micron (No. 140) sieve: maximum 1 percent by weight Retained on 74-micron (No. 200) sieve: minimum 6 and maximum 12 percent by weight Retained on 44-micron (No. 325) sieve: minimum 25 and maximum 50 percent by weight Passing 44-micron (No. 325) sieve: minimum 40 and maximum 65 percent by weight Interested parties that believe they can meet the above requirements shall provide a description of their capabilities in R&D, manufacturing, and testing. Responses should include their current business structures: (a) name of Company-include contact person???s name, company address, telephone numbers (voice and fax), e-mail address, (b) Company size (i.e. large, foreign, small disadvantaged, veteran owned, woman owned, etc) Included in the submission should be current major manufacturing processes, critical skills and equipment, and current production capabilities, which should include the maximum production rate attainable and minimum sustaining rate. Also identified should be the organization???s facilities, equipment, unique capabilities, environmental concerns, storage, shipping, receiving and other support functions, such as testing capabilities for conducting acceptance testing of the end product.
